Curriculum Vitae

Guelsel Oezkan was born in 1966 in Malatya, Turkey. In 1980 she entered the BRD. In 1987 she began to study film at the University of Fine Arts Hamburg and graduated with distinction.

Guelsel works as a director and scriptwriter for documentaries and feature films. Since 1989 she is an independent filmmaker and producer. She has released documentaries and features for ARD, arte, NDR, WDR, BR, DW Phönix, H3, MDR and SFB as well as for international channels such as Spain TVE, 3sat and Planet France. Her films has been internationally televised and nominated for numerous times.

She was a member of the jury for the 17th edition of "ÖKOMEDIA", an international environment film festival. Since 2011 she works in various universities, among them the University of Arts and Design Karlsruhe as a lecturer for storytelling in S3D documentaries and feature films. Gülsel Özkan is also the director of Planet Film GmbH. She is married and has two children.

Guelsel is also a founder of International Feminine Digital Project ("Int-Fe-Di-Pro").  Project aims to help women in the Middle East and Africa getting access to digital technologies. Competences to control and communicate with digital film and foto equipment, 3D scanners and 3D printers will create new ideas for adapt technologies to specific environmental and cultural spaces and strengthen local movements of emancipation.
